Windows 10 EOL

Microsoft has officially announced that support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025. After this date, the company will no longer provide critical security updates or patches for the operating system, which could leave devices more vulnerable to cyber threats. This announcement follows Microsoft’s traditional 10-year support lifecycle for its operating systems, giving users ample time to transition to newer versions.
The end of support means that Windows 10 users will need to consider upgrading to a more current operating system, such as Windows 11,

How will this effect me

When you switch on your PC on the 15th October you will see no difference in the computer operation everything will work as normal, The only thing that will happen is you will no longer get any security updates from this date onwards.

Can I Upgrade my PC to Windows 11

This will depend on the age of your computer according to Microsoft your device requires the following specification, Depending on your CPU

Microsoft Windows 11 Requirements

Upgrading to Windows 11 requires your PC to meet certain hardware requirements.
First your PC must have a compatible 64-bit processor
4GB RAM, and 64GB storage.


Additionally, your system must support Secure Boot and include a TPM 2.0 chip.
Microsoft also requires a DirectX 12 compatible graphics card and a display larger than 9 inches with HD resolution.

To check compatibility, download and run the PC Health Check tool from Microsoft’s website. If your system meets these criteria, you can upgrade for free via Windows Update. Ensure your files are backed up before starting the upgrade process for a seamless transition

What are my options

There are four main options

1. Do nothing your pc will still run as normal
2. Pay for extended support from Microsoft.
3. Buy a new PC with Windows 11 installed.
4. Use alternative operating system Linux or Google Chrome Flex OS.

Option 1. This option is not recommended for the long term use you will be safe for a few months but if any security vulnerability are found within window 10 there will be no fix available.

Option 2. You can pay Microsoft for Extended Security Updates (ESU) for 12 month support only for home users UK price to be confirmed.

Option 3. Purchase a new PC which Microsoft recommend computer.

Option 4. Depending on your PC usage Linux is a excellent alternative to windows, our preferred distro in linux mint which is a very user friendly operating system for general usage with support until 2029 and is totally free to use.

E Waste

Its estimated there could be 230+ million tons of e waste due to windows 10 EOL (See Article) this means perfectly good machines are just going to e-waste.
